VIVO Defence Services – supported by Equans, one of its parent companies – is proud to have worked with two UK military bases to secure Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) grant funding for decarbonisation programmes.
The projects involve the replacement of gas boilers with new green technology and fabric improvements for nine buildings at MOD Donnington, in Shropshire, and upgrading the leisure, training and rehabilitation centre at Bovington Camp, in Dorset.
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) will fund c£7m of the works in total for these projects, which will be delivered by March 2028.
And it is projected that carbon emissions will be reduced by 1,500 tonnes annually at MOD Donnington and 200 tonnes at Bovington Camp – helping the MOD reach its Net Zero commitments and providing energy cost savings.
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and delivered by Salix, provides grants to help UK public sector organisations cut energy use and emissions.
Sean O’Gorman, DE&S Infrastructure Services Deputy Head, said: “MOD Donnington is one of our largest emitters of carbon and we are delighted to have received a PSDS grant to accelerate the drive to Net Zero for this facility as part of our wider programme of decarbonisation.”
Lt Col Jamie Walkworth, Head of Sustainability, Efficiency and Exploitation in Army Basing and Infrastructure, added: “It is great news that we have received a PSDS grant for Bovington Camp to decarbonise the rehabilitation/physiotherapy centre.
“This is a fundamental part of our infrastructure for operational/deployed servicemen and women and removing the emitted carbon will enhance the facility significantly and set conditions for us applying this technology more widely.”

Director for Public Sector Decarbonisation at Salix Ian Rodger said: “The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme grant will help the MOD transition towards its net zero targets. This means that it can significantly reduce its carbon emissions as well as creating a more comfortable building for those using the buildings.
“We have no time to waste in addressing climate change and we have challenging Net Zero targets to meet.”
