The building of a new school looks set to be given the green light. The Chiltern Learning Trust, alongside Luton Borough Council, is proposing to build a new 1,200 place secondary school at the Brache, a sports ground which used to be used as a cricket pitch by workers at Vauxhall. The number of secondary school aged pupils is set to increase by 25 per cent, which means an extra 2,100 places would be needed by 2020.The school, which would be located in Gipsy Lane, would create more than half those spaces. The application has been objected to by some residents and Sports England, who feel the site is unsuitable due to its size and the loss of the playing field. It’s now been recommended for approval to be built, with a final decision due to be made by councillors on the development control committee on Wednesday.
