Cork property development company JCD is planning 220 new apartments in Mahon to address the critical shortage of living space for existing and new office workers in the city.JCD, the company developing The Capitol site on Grand Parade, already has planning permission for a major €80m five-block office development called City Gate Plaza on the former Ma/Com site next to the CSO offices. Work on the development will begin next month and take two years to complete.It is now altering its plans to include four apartment buildings in what would be one of the most significant developments of residential accommodation in Cork for many years. The announcement comes as many of the large employers in Cork are openly voicing their concerns in relation to the ongoing difficulties faced by both their existing workforce as well as new hires moving to Cork to take up employment.Work on the development will begin next month and take two years to complete.
