Plans to transform an iconic Belfast city centre property, which was once occupied by a well-known furnishings manufacturer, into a mixed-use scheme have been revealed. The six-storey building on Little Donegal Street is listed and until the 1970s was occupied by Watsons, which was famous for the fact that it operated under a royal warrant. The surrounding area also comprised a number of manufacturing and warehousing buildings. An application submitted by Gracemount Enterprises has outlined plans to refurbish the property and introduce 18 apartments to the upper floors. The design also envisages the refurbishment of the ground floor as retail space and offices. It is hoped that the creation of shop front activity along the building facades will contribute to the regeneration impact of the development, by “bringing foot traffic to under-utilised pedestrian streets”.
