Plans have been submitted to build more than 1,300 homes on greenbelt land separating Edinburgh from Musselburgh.Developer EDI Group, an arms-length company of the City of Edinburgh Council, has lodged an application for Planning Permission in Principle to construct 1,330 houses, a school and leisure facilities over a 48-hectare site known as New Brunstane.The application is one of the key Local Development Plan (LDP) sites earmarked by both the council and the Scottish Government to help Edinburgh ease its housing shortage and meet future growth targets.EDI submitted a Proposal of Application Notice back in December 2015. Since that time, they have been working closely with the local community and stakeholders on the emerging masterplan for New Brunstane with community consultation events held in March and May of this year. Feedback received at these events, along with ongoing discussions with statutory bodies has helped shape the final plans.The developer said the project would create more than 100 full-time construction jobs and generate £71 million into the regional economy.Blueprints show 23 per cent of the development’s total land area will be maintained as green spaces.
