Short description of the contract or purchase(s): 7.62mm x 51 Ball Sniper L52A1 (185 Grain) – Voluntary Transparency Notice

The Defence General Munitions Team, part of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), intends to place a Contract DGM/1916, for a repeat buy of 7.62mm x 51 Ball Sniper L52A1 for a duration of 1 year plus 1 year option from NAMMO Lapua Finland. The estimated value of this Contract is £160,000 (ex VAT).
It is considered that this requirement can be placed as a single source contract with NAMMO Lapua Finland for technical reasons.
NAMMO Lapua Finland’s 7.62mm x 51 Ball Sniper L52A1 round is the current in-service round used by the MoD. This round has been proven in service and has a significant quantity of external ballistic data collated by users since its introduction into service. This ballistic data is fundamental to plotting firing solutions and forms a key part of the sniper system. If the MOD were to procure another 7.62mm x 51 Ball Sniper round from another manufacturer, the round would have different ballistic characteristics, which would invalidate all previously acquired ballistic data and impact the accuracy of firing solutions when used operationally. Not having accurate ballistic data would introduce unacceptable technical and safety risk for users, resulting in increased risk to life and unacceptably reducing operational effectiveness.

Industry Codes:
35300000 – Weapons, ammunition and associated parts.
