Plans for a proposed mixed-use redevelopment of the former Texaco garage site on the seafront in Hove have been lodged with Brighton & Hove City Council.Independent property developer Rocco Homes and Co-operative Foodstores have submitted a joint application for a mixed-use scheme on the site, located on the corner of Kingsway and St Aubyns South. The 0.4-acre site comprises previously developed land, which was formerly occupied by a Texaco garage and shop until its closure in 2015, and the locally listed Alibi public house, at 22 Victoria Terrace.Permission is being sought to demolish the existing properties to pave the way for the construction of 55 apartments and a Co-op store in a new building of between two and nine storeys, along with associated parking and landscaping. The applicants are also proposing to restore the ground floor level and basement of 22 Victoria Terrace to provide about 2,500 sq ft of flexible commercial space. The first, second and third floors of the Alibi would be converted to four new homes. The proposed Co-op store would incorporate about 4,000 sq ft of retail space and create 25 full-time jobs.Brighton & Hove City Council’s planning committee are expected to make a decision on the scheme by the end of October 2016.
