The Finnish Minister of Defence, Jussu Niinistö, has issued a mandate to the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command to order four Protected Multi-Purpose Vehicles (PMPV) from Finnish manufacturer Protolab Oy for test use.

The order comes as Finland seeks to undertake a programme of modernisation to improve troop mobility.

The contract for the ‘MiSu’ is worth around €4 million and will see the 6×6 armoured personnel carrier put through its paces in field conditions over a two year period.

Protolab unveiled the vehicle for the first time in September 2015 and was created in response to the requirements of the Finnish and Swedish Defence ministries.

The vehicle itself falls into the Mine-resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) category and designed to provide a high level of protection against mine blasts and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes.

It the first MRAP with the capacity to be fully amphibious as it is propelled in the water by two propellers situated at the rear of the hull.

It is capable of a top speed of 68 mph on land and is able to manoeuvre in water at maximum rate of 7.5 mph.
