A leading UK defence engineering organisation required urgent transport of large, high-value engineering components between manufacturing facilities supporting a critical defence programme.

The cargo was oversized, unstackable and high value, requiring specialist handling and secure transport throughout the journey. With production schedules already under pressure, the shipment needed to move within an extremely tight timeframe.

Initially, the consignment had been arranged on an 18-tonne curtain-sided vehicle, confirmed in advance with the collection point. However, when the vehicle arrived on site, the loading team advised that the cargo could only be loaded onto a flatbed trailer.

With the consignment already time-critical and linked directly to production activity, this unexpected change created an immediate logistical challenge.

Priority Freight’s operations team moved quickly to identify a solution. A specialist flatbed vehicle was sourced at short notice, ensuring the cargo could still move without significant delay.

Although the replacement vehicle was secured the same day, the disruption meant that same-day delivery was no longer feasible. Given the size and value of the cargo, the client was understandably unwilling for the load to remain on a vehicle overnight.

Working closely with the client, the team adapted the plan once again – arranging for the flatbed vehicle to report for collection early the following morning, allowing the cargo to move directly to its destination without unnecessary risk.

The revised plan ensured secure delivery the following afternoon, minimising disruption and keeping the client’s programme firmly on track.

The client confirmed they were very satisfied with Priority Freight’s rapid response and operational expertise, highlighting the team’s ability to adapt quickly when operational requirements change. This project demonstrates how Priority Freight teams thrive on solving complex logistics challenges, delivering the right solution for clients whenever time-critical supply chains are under pressure.
