BAE Systems has secured a significant contract modification from the U.S. Army, valued at over $390 million, to produce an additional tranche of Bradley A4 Fighting Vehicles.
This order underscores the ongoing modernisation efforts within the U.S. Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams (ABCT), for which the Bradley is a critical component. The A4 variant represents a substantial upgrade over previous models, focusing on enhanced lethality, survivability, and integrated digital systems to meet future battlefield requirements. For UK suppliers, this award signals continued production activity for a major BAE Systems land platform, potentially creating opportunities within the company’s extensive global supply chain.
The Bradley A4 configuration features significant technological advancements, including digitized electronics for superior situational awareness, improved network connectivity, and enhanced communication capabilities within the ABCT. These upgrades are designed to increase the vehicle’s effectiveness against a range of threats across varied terrains and operational conditions. According to Bill Sheehy, Ground Maneuver product line director for BAE Systems, the continued upgrade to the A4 configuration is critical to providing warfighters with a dominant capability. The contract ensures that the U.S. manufacturing lines will remain active, supporting a robust defence industrial base.
Production and support for the Bradley A4 programme are distributed across a network of BAE Systems facilities in the United States, including sites in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Alabama, Minnesota, California, and Michigan. The work is being carried out in partnership with the Red River Army Depot in Texas. Work on this latest contract is already underway, with the first vehicle deliveries scheduled for completion by October 2026. This long-term production schedule offers a degree of stability and predictability for subcontractors and component suppliers engaged with BAE Systems’ land vehicle programmes. While the primary manufacturing is U.S.-based, the scale of the programme may present opportunities for specialist UK firms within the wider BAE Systems enterprise.
