Amentum has announced plans to create 3,000 new jobs in the UK over the next four years, driven by major growth in both the nuclear power sector and national defence programmes. The announcement underlines the scale of opportunities emerging as the UK accelerates its nuclear renaissance while strengthening transatlantic defence and energy cooperation.
The company, already a key delivery partner for Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations, is expanding its role in small modular reactors and fusion research. This growth comes against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive orders to quadruple nuclear generating capacity by 2050, and the UK’s push to secure domestic energy resilience through new nuclear capacity. Amentum expects its UK headcount to rise by 50%, with significant recruitment in engineering, project delivery, and advanced technology roles.
Alongside its civil nuclear projects, Amentum plays a critical role in UK defence. The company provides safety and technology services to the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet, delivers programme management and engineering support to the Atomic Weapons Establishment, and manages the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s training estate. This dual footprint across energy and defence makes Amentum one of the UK’s most strategically important industrial partners.
The business is also investing in digital engineering, AI, and automation to transform the delivery of critical infrastructure programmes in both the UK and the U.S. This emphasis on innovation not only enhances project efficiency and safety but also creates new openings for suppliers specialising in advanced digital solutions, automation technologies, and data-driven project management systems.
For the supply chain, Amentum’s expansion signals significant opportunities across nuclear construction, modular engineering, safety systems, and high-tech defence support. With 3,000 jobs set to be created and major capital programmes underway, the company’s growth highlights the scale of the UK’s upcoming demand for skilled partners, specialist technologies, and robust delivery capacity across both the civil nuclear and defence sectors.
