Short description of requirement: Sonars. The Ministry of Defence (MOD) are considering a requirement for an Complex Underwater Environmental Sensor on Astute Class Submarines.

The MOD is seeking potential interest and initial information only from industry at this stage on availability and basic technical information of potential sensor, processing & display solutions. There is no commitment to award a contract as a result of this Request for Information.

The anticipated system will be common as possible (with COTs/ MOTs), bespoke as necessary and provide the following high level requirements:
• Ice Keel avoidance
• Ice canopy mapping
• Seabed mapping
• Sea water environmental sensing.

Additionally, outboard sensors with be fitted into existing spaces with minimal changes to submarine structure. It will be accredited to appropriate security standards, and adhere to submarine change management processes. Inboard processing shall be standalone with an interface into the submarine combat system and have a means of displaying the user interface. Furthermore, an additional requirement will be disclosed at a later date.

The Supplier must be a UK list-x Supplier able to:
• Plan the development of the potential system, integration into Astute submarines, testing and trials.
• Offer a follow on support package to maintain their supplied system’s operational capability with both remote technical help, including spares supply, survey & repair, and on-demand worldwide on-board engineering assistance. Initial support package will be for two years.
• Identify all spares by NATO Stock Number to determine compatibility with existing NATO spares, and to fully integrate logistic support with the UK MOD supply system.
