Reason for Award: The only system with the right technology into which the CHIMERA capability can be integrated is the AREXIS EW Pod, a Pod developed and owned by Saab AB.

Justification For Non-Competitive Decision: In order to deliver CHIMERA, a threat modelling Project, as a viable Test & Evaluation capability, Defence Intelligence has a requirement to integrate its CHIMERA capability into a modern EW warfare suite that is capable of high power signals from steerable-AESA antennae and to demonstrate real time response to external stimulation in an anechoic chamber. This is a 3-phase programme, with Phase 1 a de-risking study completed, and Phases 2 & 3, the subject of this contract, actual integration of CHIMERA hardware and subsequent live testing.
Saab Sweden has developed a modern, complex digital Electronic Warfare suite for its Gripen Aircraft; this EW suite is part of the AREXIS family. AREXIS is based on wideband digital technology specifically developed for robustness in the very complex signal environment of today. The core technologies in AREXIS are ultra-wideband digital receivers and digital radio frequency memory devices, gallium nitride (GaN) solid state active electronically scanned array (AESA) jammer transmitters and interferometric direction finding systems. For this reason Saab was selected as the single source supplier for the 3-phase project. For technical and exclusive rights reasons, this work can only be delivered by SAAB AB.
