Installation services of communications equipment. Help-desk and support services. The Authority has a requirement to provide support to the following two communication systems:
UHF Satcom – the UHF Satcom capability supports communications services across the Royal Navy’s (RN) surface and sub-surface fleets (including operational headquarters) through engineering installation and support activities for installed antennas and receiver equipment utilising Advanced Digital Waveform (ADW) and Demand Assigned Multiple Waveform (DAMA) technologies.
Submarine Command and Control (SMC2) – the SMC2 system is an Internet Protocol (IP) based information exchange communications service designed for use within the UK Royal Navy’s operational submarine community to provide email messaging facilities. It is adapted for use within the Royal Navy from a similar system operated within the US Navy and comprises of commercial off the shelf (COTS) CIS equipment integrated with specialist communications/networking equipment procured from the US DOD via Foreign Military Sales (FMS). SMC2 is currently installed on all UK Royal Navy submarines and operational headquarters together with a land-based test & reference facility.
The Authority has identified that the ‘service wraps’ for both requirements are similar and include the following:
– Integrated Logistic Support
– Inventory and logistics management
– Maintenance support and repair rectification
– Acting as System Design Authority (SDA)
– Providing 365/24/7 help desk support
– Asset management
– Overseeing and implementing software updates and patching
– Maintaining and updating relevant contractual, technical, safety, logistics and quality documentation
– Providing a commercial mechanism for any adhoc work that may be required
– Implementing capability installations and enhancements
