Plans to create a part-12, part-18 storey building in the latest phase of the Circle Square development in Manchester have been approved. The vision for the redevelopment of the former BBC site on Oxford Road was revealed earlier this year, with the wider masterplan including a 36-storey tower, a concert hall, office space and hundreds of apartments. The newly-approved “hybrid” building will be located between Princess Street and Upper Brook Street and aims to combine a number of different uses. From the 12th to 17th floors it will be a 150-bed hotel, while the 1,100 car-parking spaces will cover the ground to 11th floors.Additionally, its Energy Centre will house a combined heat and power plant that will provide energy for the entire Circle Square community. The plan was brought forward by joint venture partners Bruntwood and Select Property Group and designed by Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios.
