Knowsley’s planned new 350-seat Shakespearean theatre is a step closer as a team has been appointed to work on the project.The Shakespeare North Playhouse, which was granted planning permission by Knowsley Council in April, will also feature an education centre and forms part of a wider scheme to regenerate Prescot town centre.Mechanical and electrical engineering experts AECOM Ltd will join structural engineers Mott MacDonald Ltd and lead architect Helm Architecture to make the Shakespeare North Trust’s cultural attraction a reality.Austin-Smith: Lord LLB will also be the supporting architect on the scheme.The playhouse is expected to draw thousands of visitors and students to Prescot as it plays host to plays as wellas the only actor training programme in the UK in relation to Shakespearean performance practice.Subject to funding, construction is due to get underway in September 2017.
