Plans for a new 100,000 sq ft leisure and restaurant development in the heart of Ashford town centre have been given final approval.Ashford Borough Council has agreed to fund the Elwick Place complex, which will consist of a six-screen cinema, seven restaurants and a 58-room hotel, as well new homes, a meeting and events space and car parking.The news was announced by council leader Gerry Clarkson at the local authority’s cabinet meeting last week. It follows planning permission being granted in December 2015.Since then, it has been confirmed that the cinema would be operated by Picturehouse, Cineworld’s boutique cinema brand.Preparatory work is currently being undertaken on site and further enabling works will take place in the New Year.Stanhope is the property developer behind the Elwick Place scheme, which is anticipated to be open in summer 2018.
