A grade II-listed Pembrokeshire mansion, which was built in the 1780s and most recently used as a care home, looks set to be converted to a hotel. Councillors are recommended to approve the change of use at a meeting tomorrow (8 November 2016).Under the application from RiskHive Technical Services, Cilwendeg Mansion in Boncath would be converted into a 12-bedroom hotel. The application site includes the grade II-listed mansion as well as terraced lawns and associated parking area. The property is located within a wider grade II*-listed historic park and garden.Buildings were first developed on the site in 1530. The mansion itself was built in the 1780s by Morgan Jones with further extensions and remodelling in the 19th century.Pembrokeshire County Council acquired the site in the 1950s and it was used as a 21-bed care home until it closed in 2010.Under the proposals, the property would be restored, with a missing chimney reinstated, and converted to provide 12 bedrooms, some with en-suite facilities. It could be used for weddings and other functions. The application will go before the council’s planning committee on 8 November 2016 with a report prepared for the meeting recommending consent is granted. It added that the hotel would “enhance the character and integrity” of the historic park and garden.
