Proposals for a new bar, restaurant and performance space at the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter have been given the green light. The property at 8 Stoney Street is known as The Corner. It was acquired in 2011 by Mellors Group, a Nottingham business that supplies fairground rides. The former post office has since been brought back into use by The Howie Smith Project, which has been using it as an event space for upcoming musicians, comedians and theatre groups, along with offices on the upper floors.Under the new plans, which were lodged by Mellors Group, the ground floor and basement of 8 Stoney Street will be converted into a performance space, bar and eatery with the capacity for up to 150 customers. It will be known at The Hub @ The Corner and will host stand-up comedy, theatre performances and live music from 7pm to 10pm each day. It will also serve food until midnight and will have a licensed bar operating from 12pm to 1am.The Hub will also serve as a conference space for professionals in the creative quarter. The application was approved by Nottingham City Council earlier this week (2 November 2016), subject to a number of conditions.Documents filed with the authority said the development “will allow the opportunity to support a long-term sustainable performance venue, social enterprise kitchen facilities, a social bar and meeting space”.
