As one of the nation’s top Apprentice employers, the British Army is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week.

Irrespective of age or qualifications, more than 95% of soldiers are enrolled onto apprenticeship schemes. This means that with some 17,500 soldiers on apprenticeship at any one time, the Army delivers the largest apprenticeship programme in the country. With training closely relating to a soldier’s military role it helps them become a better soldier as they work towards qualification.

The Army nurtures through apprenticeships giving soldiers a valuable and nationally recognised trade-related qualification, enabling them to return to transition to civilian life more easily.

The Army’s apprentcieship programme has been highly commended in the National Apprenticeship Service Awards and gained a National Training Award.

At a ceremony celebrating Britain’s Top 100 Apprentice Employers, Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP, Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills said: “Since becoming the Skills Minister, I have met hundreds of young people with a passion for apprenticeships. They really do see apprenticeships as a ‘ladder of opportunity’ – where progression towards a higher or Degree apprenticeship is realistically achievable.

“To all these young people, I say, no matter who you are, or where you are from, or whatever you want to do, an apprenticeship will open doors for you.”
