The awarding authority are looking for a suitably experienced contractor(s) with expertise in the areas of health and the asylum process, to carry out research into the barriers and enablers to asylum seekers accessing health services. The research will focus on current asylum seekers, and people whose asylum claims have been refused and have exhausted their rights to appeal. There are two elements/lots to this work and contractors are invited to apply for either individual or both lots. The first lot is to undertake a comprehensive audit of published evidence of the experiences of these groups in accessing health. The second lot is to undertake qualitative research into their lived experiences of accessing health care. Both lots will examine the impact of protected characteristics on accessing services, and how this differs in the different legislative and policy landscapes of England, Scotland and Wales. The Commission is particularly interested in bids from organisations able to engage asylum seekers in this research, deliver a methodology appropriate to the sensitive nature of this topic, and ensure the proper ethical treatment of potentially vulnerable groups. We welcome consortium bids where the needs of the project may not be met to a high standard within one organisation.
