MEL Aviation, a Suffolk-based engineering solution provider, has been awarded a new contract from the Ministry of Defence’s Air Support, Air Commodities Project Team based in Bristol.

It follows the award of a contract to provide in-service support for internal communications to the Royal Navy.

The contract win, a result of competitive tender, will see MEL Aviation provide service and repair to Armament Ground Support Equipment (AGSE). The contract will include the provision of design organisation support, spares, repairs, Post Design Services (PDS) and testing and certification. Equipment in scope will include beam lifting apparatus, universal hoists and high lift palletisers which will ensure that maintenance personnel will have the right tools available at the right time and in the right place to maintain aircraft anywhere in the world.

The contract is for a minimum of five years.

MEL Aviation has a long and ongoing relationship with the MOD which sees the firm supplying a wide range of design, repair and overhaul solutions to its many and varied project teams.

The MEL Group encompasses capabilities ranging from design and manufacture of ground support equipment and airborne components to the repair and overhaul of civil and military aerospace and defence products.

Gary Harvey, Managing Director of MEL Aviation, said: “This is the fourth significant MOD contract win for MEL Aviation in the last nine-month period. We are delighted to have been selected again for another key role in UK aviation defence. The need for specialist, fully maintained equipment that supports aircraft in both training and deployment environments is clear and we have the experience, expertise and engineering resources to fulfil this contract need.”
