The news announced will be greeted warmly by key large Defence manufacturers although the deals could yet be scuppered by Congress due to controversies surrounding the war on Yeomen.
However, given that all four Arab countries involved in the deals are allies of the United States and have a history of purchasing major arms purchases, the contracts are expected to be approved without issue.
One of the largest deals announced by the US State Department was for the $3.51Bn sale to the Saudi kingdom of 48 CH-47F Chinook cargo helicopters with spare engines and machine guns.
The main contractors will be Boeing and Honeywell Aerospace with up to 60 private and government employees will work in Saudi Arabia to maintain the aircraft.
The United Arab Emirates spent $3.5Bn on 27 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters plus support equipment, made by Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
Qatar has also ordered eight C-17 military cargo jets and spare engines in a pair of contracts worth $781M.
A deal to provide Morocco with1,200 TOW 2A anti-tank missiles made by US company Raytheon for $108M was also rubber stamped.
