This Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) themed competition is looking for proposals for technologies that will reliably generate power for man-portable and robotic and autonomous systems (RAS). These technologies need to be small, lightweight, modular and preferably have a low acoustic and/or infrared signature.

CDE are particularly interested in technologies:

  • to improve endurance; stretching to days rather than minutes
  • that are lightweight and man-portable
  • that have high energy density; greater than 1,000 watt hours per kg

As well as developing principal technology components in this competition, at phase 2 CDE also want to go on to demonstrate integrated system solutions comprising technology components from one or a number of suppliers.

Up to £750,000 is available for phase 1 of this competition. We expect to fund a number of projects around £40,000 to £80,000 with research lasting up to 9 months, with phase-1 deliverables completed by the end of January 2018.

Up to £750,000 will be made available for phase 2. This will only be to projects funded through phase 1 of the competition and will be considered on a per-project basis.

This competition closes on Wednesday 1 February 2017 at 5pm. Proposals must be submitted to CDE online.

A webinar for this Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) £750,000 phase-1 research funding competition will be held on 5 December 2016.

Registration for this webinar is now open.

The webinar will take place from 12pm to 1pm online.

It’s an easy way for you to get more information about this £750,000 (phase 1) themed competition, for those who couldn’t make it to the main networking event on Thursday 1 December 2016.

You’ll hear a summary of the challenges and have the opportunity to submit questions to technical experts for this beyond battery power themed competition.

Proposals for this competition must be submitted to CDE online and received by Wednesday 1 February 2017 at 5pm.
